Phase 1: Mitigation and Prevention

Mitigation efforts attempt to prevent hazards from developing into disasters altogether, or to reduce the effects of disasters when they occur. The mitigation phase focuses on long-term measures for reducing or eliminating risk. In many cases, it will not be possible to completely eliminate a hazard risk, in particular when expernal sources cannot be influenced (such as nearby chemical plants). However, in some cases, potential threats can be removed or risk reduced. One example is removing thermometers containing mercury to avoid risking hazmat incidents.

3Csafe™ supports you throughout this phase with common operating picture, collaboration and communication, for example:

  1. Vulnerability assessment: collaborate on assessment of potential hazards using uploaded maps, floor plans and aerial imagery
  2. Issue guidelines to avoid dangerous situations, share and publish using annotations, information objects on maps
  3. Mark dangerous areas on the map using information objects and annotations. Objects are searchable for easy retrieval
  4. Assess building/campus properties and mark emergency routes/exits using information objects/annotations
  5. Disseminate information through collaboration and COP to create awareness about potential hazards and incident hot spots (e.g. make sure certain areas are patrolled on a regular basis)
